Host Rod Olstad and guests explore the “Third Sector”: the Voluntary and not-for-profit/Non-Governmental sectors of the Canadian Economy from a local perspective. How are Edmontonians and others “picking up the slack”; taking on the tasks and needs that are left unfulfilled by the corporate and public sectors? How are these efforts reflected in our democracy and the media?
Albertans happen to donate more money to charities and NGOs than any other Canadian province.

Closure of Personal Services (as defined under Bylaw 13138)
On March 26, the City of Edmonton implemented additional measures to protect the public from the spread of COVID-19 by renewing the State of Local Emergency, as well as implementing three emergency orders, including the following: That all personal services shops providing services related to the care and appearance of the body and body rub centres, as those businesses are defined in the Business Licence Bylaw, Bylaw 13138, are immediately closed...
As of March 25, law enforcement agencies have been granted full authority to enforce the public health orders outlined below and can issue fines. New restrictions on mass gatherings and businesses are now in place to limit the spread of COVID-19.
No gatherings with more than 15 people are allowed, including:
conferences
workshops
worship gatherings
family events, such as weddings and funerals
social gatherings outdoors
Business, workplace and facility closures

government has proposed legislation to establish the Canada Emergency
Response Benefit (CERB). This taxable benefit would provide $2,000 a
month for up to four months for workers who lose their income as a
result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The CERB would be a simpler and more
accessible combination of the previously announced Emergency Care
Benefit and Emergency Support Benefit.
